Puppets in the Park

‘Puppets in the Park’ was a great success! We were amazed at the talent and abilities of the youth who joined us for this week of puppets and musical theater experience.

We thank Brigham City for listing our event on their Sights and Sounds of Summer Calendar and allowing us to use Pioneer Park free of charge.  We are very grateful to Bonnie Richardson who wrote and directed  “The Problem with Pirates” which turned out to be a  very cute and humorous play.  We thank  Candie Richardson for  her help as assistant director  and for providing piano back up.  We want to acknowledge and thank an awesome cast of youth who put in a lot of hard work  and showed us how much fun singing and working together can be.  They included : Dallan Richards as Captain, Bonnie Mitson as First Mate,  James Richardson as Ship’s Helper ( puppet),  Megan Richards as Pickle Barrel (singing Puppet), Kitsel Lusted as Cook,  Sydnee Nethery ,  Reagyn Delozier, and Alice Richardson as the Island Wenches,  and  Jayden Wanlass,  Mary Richardson, Julianna and Adrianna Thode,  Ephraim Taylor, and Katelyn Steed as pirates.  Thanks also to Tiffany Herzog and  Scottie Mitson for filling in as sound techs. We were also grateful  for such great audience participation. 

 

We are indebted to Scott Mitson for the “Island” truck and  driving support,  to Luke Whipple of Whipple Sound who stepped  in  late in the game to provide professional  sound support, and to a great bunch of parents who helped with costuming.  We also thank our sponsors : the Marie Eccles Caine Foundation,  The Kiwanis Club of Brigham City,  Southern Post,  and Whipple Sound.   

Arrrgh,   May ye all enjoy sailing  on yer own similar adventures. 

 

 (P.S. We are also still trying to get the name of the sweet young "wench" who let the captain demonstrate his skill in rescuing and taking  such beautiful young women on board.  She didn't get her share of the gold!  Any forwarded information would be appreciated. )

There are still openings in our regular theater camp for the 8 to 15 year olds. This is scheduled for the week of July 6 through 10 at the Fine Arts Center from 10 am to 2 pm. This will be under the direction of  Ann Bailey and   the cost is $45 per student.  For more information or to register, please call us at 723-0740. 

ONgoing THEATRE PROGRAMS

 The Fine Arts Center now has a series of educational theatre experiences for 1st through 12th grade, with additional opportunities for adults (Peach Days)   Here is a chance for students of all ages to develop their acting skills and learn the basics of theatre.   Whether you  are trying out  a new skill or further developing an  interest and talent,  our goal is a fun and positive learning experience for all participants involved.  Most classes are offered after school and classes are small to allow everyone a chance to shine.   We hope to  also be looking at more community performing opportunities for adults and youth of  all ages in the next two years.  

 Pre-registration by phone is requested for all classes- You can call us at 435-723-0740.  Registration fees can be paid the first day of class.  All classes require a minimum of 6 students to run.  Family discounts and scholarships may be available .

IMPROV FACTION:  A great chance for  students,  10th grade and older, to develop their wit, humor, acting, and improvisation skills.   Students are invited to drop in and try it out.  Improv  games and routines are put together under the direction of Barbara Dawson with a variety of performance opportunities also available.   There is no charge to participate in this program.   Check Improv link for latest schedule.

 The  High School  THEATRE WORKSHOP Program:
The  Theatre Workshop Program is  for High School students ( 14 years and up) .  They have had a full year of activities with a fall and Spring show and  several helping with our Peach Days Melodrama.  Students  meet weekly on Thursdays  from 6:30 to 8 pm during the school year with additional rehearsal time as needed toward the end of the season:  6 to 9 pm on Thursdays, some Saturday mornings,  and  the Tuesday of the final week.  Watch for more information in August on a Fall 2009 Class.  Sessions  include  in depth study of characterization skills, stage presence, audition skills and other aspects of acting.

MORE CLASSES
The after school elementary and intermediate theatre classes are normally offered after school on Tuesdays through the school year.    Elementary Theatre includes  1st through 5th grade and is  under the direction of Bonnie Richardson, meeting on Tuesdays from 4 to 5 pm.     Intermediate  Theatre  for  6th through 8th grade students  also under the direction of Bonnie Richardson,  meets from 5 to 6 pm* on Tuesdays.  ( *May extend to 6:30 pm as needed just prior to production.)  Next sessions will start mid September after Paech Days.

INSTRUCTORS
We  are grateful for all the great, experienced and knowledgeable instructors who have worked to make  our theater programs  such a success.  More information on the instructors will be available on request at bcfineartscenter@aol.com.

We are especially proud of the 14 to 18 year olds in the Theatre Workshop program.  They did an outstanding job on the "Best Christmas Pageant Ever".  The cast as shown above included :  front Michelle Glenn, Shannon McCullam, Rachel Garbe, (second row)  Mikkel Beus, Olivia Bailey,  Richelle Sutton,  Sydney Anderson, Callan Merkley,  (top Row) Zach Argyle,  Jordan Tolman,  Adam Wheatley, Kade Donovan, Hannah Callaway, Mallory McGowan,  and Shane Donovan.  

 Over 250 people came and enjoyed celebrating  the start of  the Christmas Season with this delightful show which was produced under the direction of Ann Bailey of Mantua. 

Play-On was a a delightful murder mystery comedy held April 30, and May1 through.  Pictures and more information to be poster by May 25th.
