Here are some of the exciting opportunities to learn about the wild and amazing world of puppetry here at the Fine Arts Center:
*(We offer 1-1/2 to 5 hour puppet making workshops in schools for an average of $2 to $3 a child- also workshops for community groups like scouts and preschoolers.)
It is Puppet time!!! This is a great time of year to enjoy the creativity, the "teach-ability" outreach and the fascination of puppets along with some delightful, if not hilarious entertainment.
The National (and World) Day of Puppetry is now officially March 21 and Puppeteers here in Utah are excited to celebrate. Utah is alive with puppets and we are ready to highlight our three guild branches. The guilds are dedicated to promoting and sharing the art of puppetry and will be offering their annual community outreach activities and workshops.
The Northern Utah Puppetry Guild will be joining forces with the Brigham City Fine Arts Center and helping to host a day full of puppet activities on Saturday March 25th from 9 to 3 pm. Interested folks are invited to come for the day or the individual activities. Youth ages 6 through 12 years are invited, but must be accompanied by an adult.
Learn about the different puppet types, make a puppet, learn puppet performance techniques, and see easy to make puppet stages. Puppets make good storytellers, educators, friends and analysts and promote creative problem solving. Come laugh with us, while discovering the creativity, artistic opportunities and fun that puppets bring with them.
Persons planning to come to the "wanna be" puppet making workshop need to bring a stuffed animal or character to puppetize, along with $3 to cover additional materials. There will also be a limited number of stuffed characters available here for a $1 to $2 fee. We suggest pre-registering to reserve your spot for the workshop at 435-723-0740 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Those wanting to learn more about advanced puppet making or string a floppy stuffed animal as a marionette, should plan to attend the 1-2 pm session.
There will also be a few hands-on workshops on puppet performance techniques with a end of day puppet show scheduled for 2 pm. There is a recommended $2 donation per person for those just coming to see the show.
There will also be 2 days of puppet activities hosted by The Laughing Cactus Puppet Guild in Southern Utah in St. George Utah at the Difiore Center on Friday and Saturday March 17 and 18.
Finishing up a month of celebration there is planned a day long Puppetry Workshop and puppet show Follies at the SCERA in Orem for Saturday April 15, 2017. More information for these latter events are on UtahPuppetry.com.
