 "On the Edge"

As part of ART-TELL,  The Fine Arts Center of Brigham City is sponsoring its annual themed art show Thursday through Saturday, April  18, 19, 20, and 21,  2012.  This will be a judged show with at least three cash merit awards given.   Paintings, drawings, sculpture, fiber art, quilting, and photos are all acceptable.  The exhibit will be open afternoon and evenings  Thursday thru Saturday evening. Activities will end in a dinner banquet at 6:30 pm and an artists reception at 8:15 pm. Winners to be announced and prizes awarded at the reception.

 

 ELIGIBILITY:  Original art work by persons 15 years (9th grade) or more and residents of Northern Utah*,   (Box Elder, Cache, and Weber Counties).  Up to two items may be submitted, but we reserve the right to display only one piece of art work per person as space dictates.   Art work previously winning prizes at the Brigham City Museum/Gallery or Box Elder County Fair will not be eligible for contest awards. ( *Artists who regularly  work in Northern Utah are also eligible to participate with art entries)

 

SPECIFICATIONS:
1. There is an entry fee of $5 per submission.

2. All art work will include a statement about the artwork in 25 words or less, and relate it to this  year’s theme of “On the Edge ”,   (open to your interpretation and due on submission.)
3. All art work must be ready to be hung or set out for exhibit. Photos, drawings, and paintings need to be framed and wired for hanging.
4. The recommended largest size is 4 feet in any direction.
5. Art work chosen for exhibit cannot be picked up early.

 

CATEGORIES:

Judges may determine awards in any of the following categories: Most Representative of Theme, Best of Show, and Honorable Mentions. There will also be a People’s Choice Award. Minimum prizes of $75, $30 and $30. Art work to be judged by local artist panel. 

 

CALENDAR:

April 16  3-5 pm  (Monday)  Call to arrange early artwork drop off,  if Tues.or Weds. is difficult..

April 17 & 18: (Tuesday and Wednesday) 12:30 pm to 7 pm, entries received. 

April 19: Entries judged in am.  Exhibit opening in pm. Watch for special youth event.

April 20 and 21: (Friday and Saturday)  Exhibit open  2 to 7 pm.  Music in the City Concert on             Friday evening.

April 21 st: ( Saturday) Dinner at  6:30 pm , silent auction, reception and awards set for 8:15 pm                       (art work may be picked up after 9:00pm)

April 23rdth   ( Monday ) 3 to 5:30  pm : Pick up art work if not able to collect on Saturday evening. 

 

INSURANCE AND LIABILITY:     The Fine Arts Center staff will take every precaution to handle art work carefully.  However, since insurance value on original artwork is difficult to establish, the Center will not insure the artwork.

Winners Honored at reception 2011

Winners in the Brigham City Fine Arts Center fourth annual ART-TELL themed art competition received awards during an artists’ reception held Saturday, April 16, culminating the week-long art and storytelling festival. There were 45 artworks based on the theme “See the Magic” entered in the show which featured Cache, Box Elder and Weber Counties. 
Best of Show honors were captured by Brigham City photographer Michael Goates for “Self Portrait” featuring a reflection in the window framed by ornate brickwork. Photography first place went to Hal R. Allen of Brigham City for “Reed’s Leather and Canvas” with second place going to Gary Gardner of Brigham City for “Junk Yard Doll”. Drawing and Graphic Arts first place winner was Mary Wells of Ogden for “26 Dragons” while second place went to Jeffery A. Lowe of Brigham City for “Poet’s Pen”. Three-D and Fabric Art first place winner was Diane McNaughton for her “Whimsies of Magic” sculpture, which also received the People’s Choice award. Second place went to Deon Richards of Mantua for her “See the Magic” quilt. Painting category first place went to Jeff Lowe for “Acorn Fairies” and second place to Glenda Port of Brigham City for “Witnessing the Magic of a Hawaiian Sunset”. 
The Saturday reception followed a silent auction, fundraising dinner and entertainment for Fine Arts Center supporters.
